Princess Peach

Originally posted on Saturday, November 22, 2008.

A couple of months ago, Princess Peach came into our lives. She was very thin and had a few health issues. My sister's friends rescued her from a storm sewer and gave her to us. Why someone would dump such a beautiful puppy (or any animal) is beyond me. We fell in love with her immediately and she became part of our family.

My son named her Peach (no clue why) and sometime around Halloween, I started calling her Princess Peach of the Pumpkin Patch. She is one of the most well behaved dogs I have ever seen. She is also incredibly loving and sweet. She had some tummy issues at first, which made housebreaking a pain, but she got it after a while.

Anyway, we have become very attached to Princess Peach. I took her in to be spayed a few days ago and the vet dropped a bomb. Princess Peach has mange and not the easy to treat kind. The picture that the vet painted was bleak. Though I trust my vet, I chose to get a second opinion. The second vet confirmed everything the first vet said.

There is a slim chance that her immune system can kick this and she will outgrow it, so I am actively doing everything I can to help build her immune system through diet and supplements. I am trying to always stay positive. I give her puppy pep talks and make sure she knows she is loved.
It's up to her now.
